Middle School Here We Come!!

Ok, no we aren't teaching MS in a public school system, but Jon and I decided to take the plunge and see where we could lend our hand at church. We asked our Wednesday night teacher where we could be used with the youth, and voila...his wife is the passionate Middle School director and they are swamped.

Our church has a huge gym and over 2,000 members, so use your imagination and that is what we walked into. A huge gym of about 50-75 middle schoolers playing some version of dodgeball, and throwing the balls at each other. So, after our criminal background check (isn't that wild), then next Sunday we leave our comfortable Wednesday night class and start helping with a group of about 5 kids. Goal is to get to know 5-6 kids well, and then kind of be around them in a larger small group. Then on Sunday mornings we are going to be helping in the Confirmation class, which really just teaches the kids about Christ, and is kind of a more in-depth study on what it means to be a Christian and the steps to Christ. We are curious anyway about the class, so it will be good for us to be a part of it. It's not required for the kids, but they learn alot, get to ask alot of questions, and alot end up pledging their lives to God... Not sure what we'll be doing, but we think it comes with a T-shirt and nametag, and some assigned "kiddos".

Wish us luck! We can't wait to "get our feet wet" both in Church Education and in merely being around Middle Schoolers. It will be great practice for teaching, and will also help us Give Back!

Hope they don't throw a ball at me! I'll definately have to loosen up a bit, and learn to giggle at silly girly things, and tolerate a bunch of crazy boys. But I'm ready! Jon and I can't wait to get started. We've got great people to model, so it should be super fun! As the youth director said, if you can handle this large group of crazy kids, teaching school will be a "piece of cake". Not sure about that, but here's hoping!!!
