Our Autism Awareness

Today, we had Braden's pre-assessment for state-provided diagnosis and services. The district LSSP - Licensed Specialist in School Psychology visited with us for several hours. It was just a parental visit today with many behavioral/medical questions. At the end of our visit, she concluded Braden is definitely on the Autism Spectrum. Tomorrow, we meet with a panel of individuals which will all individually observe Braden and make their own judgements of diagnosis, where on the ASD spectrum he is, and what school/state services he will receive from the public school system. The local program is a 2, 4, or 6 hour program and they will transport him from daycare to school, and back to daycare again. We are thinking he will receive the 2 hour program, which will allow him partial days at school, and partial day at daycare. We were sent home with several lengthy checklists to complete and return of our own observations, and will know much more tomorrow. Today's visit confirmed our suspicions, but also provided much needed information on how we will build on his strengths and improve weaker areas in his development. We are thankful to have such wonderful people working with us, and we'll keep you posted on more to come. In summary, we have a son with ASD and that's OKAY!!
